Emergency Groundwater Supply, India

Several years of drought in Gujarat culminated in severe water shortages for Rajkot, a city of 1,200,000 people in 1999. Andreas de Jong worked as the "Emergency Assistance Hydrogeologist" with the Gujarat Water Supply and Sanitation Board (GWSSB), funded by the Government of The Netherlands.

Advice was given on the commissioning of the Wankaner wellfield as an emergency water supply for Rajkot city (population 1,200,000), and GWSSB was assisted in setting up an aquifer evaluation and wellfield management strategy.
